Mirboo North UC Celebrates 125 Years!
On Sunday 27th October nearly 70 people celebrated 125 years of continuous worship in Mirboo North at St Andrew’s Uniting Church. Visitors included a busload from Wesley Uniting Church in Box Hill, people from St Luke’s, Morwell, past ministers, lay preachers and former members. All our local churches were represented. The service was led by the Rev. Judy McLeod, with greetings from the Rev. Fiona Morrison, the chair of the Presbytery of Gippsland, and prayers by the Rev. Joedy Meers. Some impromptu speeches were made and gifts were received. A crimson callistemon was planted, not far from the silver birches which were planted at the 100th Anniversary. Guests enjoyed a light lunch and had the opportunity to look through the Child Care Centre and to view a slideshow of some of the memorable events of the last 25 years.A Bible which was presented to the church by the Sunday School in 1916 had recently been restored. It contains the names of all ministers since that time. Guests were invited to sign it as part of this historic occasion. Some of the reminiscing among those present was of the 100th Anniversary when members wore period costumes from Coal Creek and the minister of the day, the Rev. Jim Murray, arrived on a horse as had been the case in 1899. This Anniversary was a memorable occasion. We look forward to the future as we endeavour to live out our mission statement: “Growing in Christ and sharing His love”. – Lynne Oates
Today (27 October 2024) was a wonderful day of celebrating the Uniting church of St Andrews Mirboo North. We recognised that the creator spirit of God was with the GunaiKurnai and Bunurong people long before we displaced them.

20th March 2022 – HymnFest Traralgon
from Ian Conabere (photos Peter Batten) Thank you to those of you who attended, sang &/or played at HymnFest last Sunday afternoon. We learnt the songs (Songs of Grace 822) When our song says peace and Allan Hoare’s There is grace. Allan, Janet & Simon Hoare travelled from Port Melbourne UCA. Simon and Allan’s guitar and vocal work provided a pleasant, easy-listening experience. People came from Neerim South, Bunyip, Bairnsdale, Mirboo North, Morwell, Sale and Traralgon to participate. HymnFest was designed as a meeting point for singers and musicians of all abilities. Please consider how you can help us at the next HymnFest in Bairnsdale on May 29 2022 and grow the joy of worshipping through music.

20th March 2022 – Fig Tree Project 3rd Anniversary
Peter Morris says – At Traralgon, Glengarry and Rosedale We were using different readings to fit our Lenten studies, although we did talk about the Fig Tree Anniversary as we spoke of the symbols in the church…Despite good intentions, I forgot to take photos in Traralgon, although I took some in small services at Glengarry and Rosedale. I’m afraid that by 4:00pm at Rosedale, the fig leaf was noticeably withered and we reflected on how our symbols don’t always work out as intended.

An opportunity to reflect and pray for the situation in Ukraine will be offered in the Shire Hall Foyer next Thursday 31st March. Anyone can drop in for as long or short a time as they wish between 7.30 pm and 9.00pm.
This is an opportunity for everyone in our community to express concern. It is an event open to everyone. Ecumenical, multi faith and for people of no faith. There will be an opportunity to light a taper candle, hear some uplifting Ukrainian Orthodox sacred music and donate to the Act for Peace Ukrainian Appeal (if you wish).
Please consider coming along if only for a few minutes to show your concern for and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
